What kind of game is Valor Mortis?

Valor Mortis is officially described as a first-person action Soulslike. One More Level's overview places a resurrected soldier from Napoleon's army in an alternate 19th-century Europe shaped by war, plague, horror, and supernatural threats.

The game combines demanding combat, melee and ranged weapons, supernatural abilities, and Metroidvania-inspired level design. The official overview does not specify a seamless open world, a fixed number of levels, or the complete ability list.

How do combat, exploration, and progression fit together?

Official descriptions establish the broad mix of weapons, abilities, and exploration. Pre-release hands-on sessions add build-specific examples: blocking, parrying, dodging, stagger pressure, limited-ammunition firearms, a fire ability, checkpoints, upgrades, and revisiting areas.

Those reports cover a 2025 pre-alpha and different 2026 preview or Demo segments. Some describe a directed opening; another reaches a later, more open combat area. These builds show varied spaces, not that the complete game is entirely linear or fully open world.

For the narrower mechanics that have enough evidence to discuss, see parries, guns, and weak points.

Is Valor Mortis single-player or multiplayer?

The official Steam and Xbox stores currently list Valor Mortis as single-player, while the PlayStation listing displays Offline play enabled and 1 player for PS5.

No announced store feature currently lists co-op or PvP. Steam Cloud, Steam Achievements, Xbox cloud saves, and Xbox achievements are platform services rather than multiplayer modes. See the dedicated multiplayer, co-op, and offline-play guide for the platform-by-platform table.

How long is the story?

An official Steam announcement describes a 20-hour story. That is a developer estimate used in the pricing explanation, not a measured player average, speedrun time, or completionist estimate.

Saved HowLongToBeat pages had no usable Main Story, Main + Sides, or Completionist figures. There was therefore no independent community dataset to compare with the estimate.

Does the Demo represent the full game?

The official announcement says the special Chapter I and Chapter VII Demo builds no longer represented the full game's quality and polish. Their combat, traversal, pacing, performance, and chapter order should not be generalized to the final game.

Read the Steam Demo timeline for the shutdown plan and build boundary, or the release date and platforms guide for current launch questions.
