How does combat work in Valor Mortis?
Valor Mortis combines melee weapons, ranged weapons, and supernatural abilities in first person. Official store descriptions name parries, dashes, visceral finishers, multiple weapons, enhanced attacks, and unlockable supernatural abilities.
Does Valor Mortis Have Guns?
Yes. Official descriptions of Valor Mortis explicitly include swords, firearms, and magical powers, while the official Demo announcement tells players to ready their muskets. These sources confirm that guns are part of combat, but they do not amount to a complete final weapon guide.
In the special Chapter VII Demo, the Rapier could hit enemy weak points without using a firearm. Other pre-release hands-on builds connected limited-ammunition firearms with environmental, enemy, or boss weak points, but those observations do not establish that every weak point in the final game requires a gun.
In its Summer Game Fest pre-release session, Checkpoint Gaming found the Rapier faster but more exposing and the Musket slower but more powerful. That is a build-specific impression, not a final stat table or weapon ranking.
What is confirmed about parries and defense?
Pre-release sessions include blocking, parrying, dodging, stance pressure, and heavy attacks or finishers. Each observation applies only to the build that publication played.
The clearest official example is the Demo's Chapter VII Rapier. A Steam announcement says its defense relied on perfectly timed parries. It does not give the input or timing window, and it is not a final-release rule for every weapon.
What remains unknown for the full release?
The available sources do not yet establish:
- final button and key bindings, parry windows, or dodge behavior;
- exact stagger and finisher triggers, the complete weapon list, movesets, damage, ammunition, or acquisition locations;
- the attack rules for every enemy and environmental weak point;
- Demo-to-release changes in enemies, bosses, abilities, and chapters.
This is a mechanics overview, not a best-build guide, weapon tier list, boss script, or frame-perfect parry tutorial.
